The purple one hath arrived. I didn't think I would remember much of this one, as I'd always seen 1999 as the ground zero of my involvement with Prince, but in fact there is loads here that is familiar - either from the time, or Huey Morgan, or whatever. A lot of the "what does this button do?" synthsperimentation has gone, and it's a more assured sound, that sounds lie... Prince.

It was also a monster hit, which again I wouldn't have remembered. Number 3 in the states, in the R&B charts at any rate, and certified gold in the UK (though some of that may have been after the fact). 37 minutes long, so the runtime is creeping up, and two of those are 7-minute-plus jam epics - does the world need those? Debatable.

There was an Edinburgh band called Annie Christian... seems like an odd name to choose given that from memory they were a very pale indie band. Each to their own I suppose. And so we approach the magic '83, where the party really gets started.
