I'm mean, I'm saying Husker Du, but maybe this is closer to The Ramones. It's a lot of fun, that's for sure. And it's not mucking around either, this is straight to the floor, neat neat neat, rock and roll. To say it's immediately encouraging would be an understatement. Yes, of course, there is stuff here that I recognise, bands who no doubt took The Replacements as influences, from early Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, etc etc. And yes, it's unmistakably American. But I really don't mind that at all.
I love that it's all hitting that one minute, two minute, three minute mark - I guess it's a refreshing change after KB.
I love the Thunders song. I still remember that hotel in New Orleans. Looking for Johnny. I guess this song was ten years ahead of its time, but it all came to pass eventually. More's the pity.
All in all, this is rough and ready, straight down the line rock & roll, and that is a great thing as far as I'm concerned. It's always curious how bands like this make a career though, like, what is the end goal. Presumably not stadium rock. You look at a band like the Cribs though and think, well, they're not far away...
I wonder if Liam or Noel ever listened to this? More Cigarettes seems like their kind of song. And it's interesting how complex Something to Du seems in comparison to a lot of the other songs. Something to prove, perhaps.
