There's a subtle change here, which the title perhaps flags up. It's a shift away from the very controlled, metronomic, synth sound of the previous albums, to something more free, with more soul and swagger. Sisters, with Aretha Franklin, is perhaps the clearest demonstration of this, but it works, and there's an energy that for al the hits was perhaps lacking on the last outing.

And the hits are very much still there. This is the band at their absolute prime, that mid-80's run of success that may have started to seem a little more frayed as the end of the millennium approached. I guess Sweet Dreams will always be the most recognisable Eurythmics tracks, but There Must Be An Angel can't be far behind. I'm trying to remember what my reaction would have been to these songs at the time. I don't think I hated them, but they were 100% the wrong side of cool for me to be actually interested in buying anything. It just wasn't for me, I guess.

It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back) is still a song I have a lot of time for. It must have been about this time that I could in theory have gone to see the band play, when we were staying in a campsite near St Tropez. The camp organised trips to see visiting bands and this was one, though I think Bowie doing Serious Moonlight would have been another. If it had been the Cure, or Duran, or The Police, I might have pushed to go. Maybe I would have enjoyed it. It's possible it would have been my first ever gig, and not a bad start really.
