It's a game of two halves. And it's surprising how often that happens - Da Capo, White Light White Heat, Pictorial Jackson Review, there are more. But it's a striking contrast between the hit hit hit of the first side with the more trad KB thoughtfulness of the second half. This was the basis for her whole comeback show thing, which must have been very special for all concerned.

Can you imagine buying Hounds of Love, listening to Cloudbusting, title track, etc, then turning it over to hear this absolute madness? Witches, and jigs, and every other crazy under the sun. I imagine there are a few copies that have discernible differences in listening patterns. It's interesting though - there's a lot going on. It's just not that radio-friendly. Which, for the avoidance of doubt, is no bad thing.

It's hugely cinematic too, and I suppose the videos, especially Donald Sutherland in Cloudbusting, must have played a huge role, as they did in the eighties.

I'm glad she made it out of the sea okay in the end. And in a weird, Looking Glass kind of way, there are echoes of previous songs in Hello Earth, which I rather like. Morning Fog is probably the most straightforward pop song on side two, and it's a good one. But I think the hits will get the credit they deserve.
