Progressing more clearly into pop territory, though how it must have stung not to have a Nigel to put in pole position. Sgt Rock is certainly a familiar track to me from Liza Tarbuck and others, though Generals and Majors also seems to have charted respectably.

There's a kind of Beatles/Rutles vibe to some of this, not just the songs but the stories. As if they were somehow their own tribute act, or a tribute act to a band that never existed. I'm aware of the Dukes of Stratosphear stuff, which is really interesting, but there's some of it that seems almost on a line of pastiche. And of course they stopped touring after this album, which seems to follow that trend too.

Love at First Sight has that Buggles telephone effect voice going on - what they want is... "Too clever for their own good" runs one of the reviews, and perhaps that's something I've always been attracted to.
