Like a big time. As Welcome to New York chimes in I would challenge anyone to describe this as Country & Western music. It's a new soundtrack. Clear credits on every song. This is a Taylor Swift project. I wonder how many people have had that song blasting out on their headphones as the plane circled round JFK, or the yellow cab swung round to give them a better view of the skyline.

I wouldn't have been able to put a title to Blank Space - I think I imagined it was called Young & Reckless? And I had misheard one of the key lines all along - I thought she was talking about "lonely Starbucks lovers," but it's actually "long list of ex-lovers." But that Starbucks lovers line is a great insight into why Taylor works on so many different levels. Taking Mean Girls as a baseline, I think everyone would love Taylor, wouldn't they? There really is something for everyone, dancing, lyrics, looks.

Shake it Off is the monster of course, polaroid photos harking back to Outkast and all the rest. Dare I say it, the rest of the album has moments which are a bit... bland? There was a line about how Nirvana were like the Beatles combined with Black Sabbath, and that the Foo Fighters were like Nirvana minus the Black Sabbath. There's something about the equations of it all. Without the country heart, a lot of the songs seem to blend into one, the same beats, the same effects, the same themes. It's satisfying for an instant, but it soon fades. And there's only so much of it you can push out there before you need something with a bit more substance.
