Well, this is a new one on me. Distingue. It has a certain jazz age elegance to it. The rasps and nasal tones are steadily increasing though, and here we are in 1958 with the clock ticking down. I prefer the small band stuff I think to the more OTT orchestral jazz stuff from Frank or whoever. It sounds clubby, smoky, martinis being poured and whisky being sipped. There's a romance that probably didn't shine through to the actualite of the distingue.

Stars Fell on Alabama feels like an interesting collision of the historical and the astronomical. So much music associated with that state, whether you're on the side of Neil or Lynyrd. I remember it feeling tense but not intimidating, albeit we were just driving through. I guess you have to stray from the highway to get into the real badlands, the backwaters, the trailer parks and honky tonks. It would be amazing to explore it some day. That bridge over to Mobile, listening to Gimme Shelter, that's a moment I won't forget.
