It's a more sophisticated sound, that's for sure. Now that I understand more of the background I think I can hear more of the rock and pop influences which Bob is weaving in. Perhaps I need to listen to more "trad" reggae to really be able to spot the differences. Coming in From the Cold has that Delgados link which I find funny.
To some extent you might say this album is just a long overture as it builds towards Redemption Song. I've lost track of the number of times I've heard different people doing that song, some well, some terrible. It's become a standard to some extent I suppose. Was there some thing about Liam doing it? Nah, maybe I invented that. But like If I Can Dream, it's a wonderful thought for a cover.
Could You Be Loved is maybe one oft hose like No Woman No Cry that I file under interesting but unsure. It maybe feels like it's more by-numbers than some of the other big tracks. And of course there's more rasta lyrics coming in here. By this time he must have known he didn't necessarily have all the time in the world. A stupid football match. What a waste.
